You Each Remember
the Last Ten Years
Differently
Both of you are right. That’s the hard part.
Couples Counseling throughout Massachusetts

One of You Is Running Everything
One of you has been running the whole house. Appointments, bills, permission slips, the kid who needs more than most kids need.
The other one finally got an explanation for it. A diagnosis. A name for the last ten years.
So the helping started. And nothing softened.
Ten years alone doesn’t get repaid in three good weeks.
One of you needs those ten years named before anything else can move. The other hears every mention of them as a life sentence.
So you stop talking about it … and fight about the dishwasher instead.
One of you is finally showing up. The other is too tired to believe it.
Neither of you is wrong about what happened.

Your Marriage Inherited Two Different Rulebooks
In one house growing up, anger got you heard. In the other, anger got somebody hurt, so nobody used it.
You each arrived with rules you never chose, and you both brought them anyway.
Together, we look at how your parents fought, what got rewarded, what got punished. Then we look at which of those rules you’re still following.
Those rules followed you home whether you noticed or not.
I’m not here to just nod and listen. We’ll get practical fast: what happened this week, what you each did with it, what you’ll do differently.
- Hard conversations end in a decision instead of a standoff.
- Repair takes an hour instead of three silent days.
- Credit gets said out loud instead of assumed.
- Effort gets noticed by the person it was meant for.
- Trust starts tracking evidence instead of promises.
That’s what I mean by functioning well together.
Three Steps, Both of You in the Room
Meet Together
We start with both of you in the room. You each tell me what the last few years have actually been like. Both stories get heard out loud.
Make the Plan
We name what each of you is working toward and where those goals overlap. Goals that fit your marriage, not a template. You stop working against each other.
Build New Skills
You practice between sessions, not just during them. Repair, timing, how to raise a hard thing without a blowup. The new habits outlast the session.
Marriage & Family Therapy is my actual degree
My master’s is in Marriage and Family Therapy (Liberty University, 2012, summa cum laude), and I’m licensed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
A systems approach, not referee duty
Instead of refereeing your arguments, we trace the rules you each grew up under and figure out which ones are still calling the shots.
Blunt, practical, and fully online
I’m not here to perform therapy at you, and every session runs by secure video, so the drive never becomes the reason you skip.

Hi, I’m Jen
I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist working online with couples across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
I’m blunt, practical, and focused on getting the two of you back on the same team – not refereeing another argument.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do both partners need to attend?
Yes. Couples counseling works when both of you are in the room, because the pattern lives between you and I can’t see it from one side.
How many sessions will we need?
Every couple is different, and we’ll work at a pace that fits your goals. When both of you are cooperating, this work usually runs six months to a year.
What if my partner wants this more than I do?
That happens constantly. Couples are rarely in the same spot on wanting to change, and we start with whatever motivation is actually in the room.
How will we know it’s working?
Communication comes back first. You’ll notice you’re solving things instead of relitigating them, and the fights stop being the main event of your week.
You’re Both Tired. You Can Still Rebuild This.
Take the First Step Today
A healthier marriage starts with one conversation.
Bring both of you. I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and I know how to help you reconnect, communicate, and move forward together.
Showing up is the only thing you both have to agree on.
Functioning well together is closer than it feels right now.
